Celsus on Christianity

Taking its root in the lower classes, the religion continues to spread among the vulgar: nay, one can even say it spreads because of its vulgarity and the illiteracy of its adherents. And while there are a few moderate, reasonable, and intelligent people who are inclined to interpret its beliefs allegorically, yet it thrives in its purer forms among the ignorant.
True then and true today.

Wingnut Watch

Atlas Shrugs:

Knowing what we know about President Hussein, he despises our military and holds them in as great contempt as he does great Americans and patriots.
Sultan Knish:

2008 was a wake up call showing just how close to the darkest hour of midnight we are. We aren't finished yet, but there are only so many chances left. Our institutions have been corrupted, our culture has been hijacked, our country has been hijacked. The toxins accumulating in the body of the nation will kill it, given time.

Defend Our Freedoms:

Should it be discovered Mr. Obama is ineligible, a constitutional crisis would ensue attempting to determine which of his executive branch orders should be valid. If, however, this case continues and Mr. Obama fights revealing his documentation, there are growing concerns of civil unrest, or worse, being unleashed in the streets of our nation

Yesterday's Right

I have long had an interest in the political Right of the 60's, which grew out of my interest in the JFK assassination. I recently read a book from that time, The Minutemen by J. Harry Jones, Jr., about Robert DePugh and the organization he founded. Jones devotes a few pages to Frederick Seelig, the author of Destroy the Accuser, praised by Robert DePugh, Congressman John Rarick, Westbrook Pegler, and Revilo P. Oliver, the only witness before the Warren Commission whose name was a palindrome.

I haven't read Destroy the Accusers yet, but apparently Speelig was falsely imprisoned in a mental institution by an insidious network of Communist homosexuals. More on his book here:
A MASSIVE POINTING FINGER menaces a red silhouette of a man on the cover of Frederick Seelig's book, and it's a great graphic, but, really, it's the book's subtitle that caught my eye. Oh, Frederick Seelig, you had me at "Federal homo power exposed."

The far right may be fractured and intellectually and morally bankrupt but they aren't going anywhere. Unable to claim that Obama stole the election (due to the size of his victory) they continue to push the idea that he is not legitimately the President, because he has not released the long form of his birth certificate. No matter that he did release the short form, a valid legal document, authenticated by the state of Hawaii.

Remember how nutty the Right got under Clinton? I think things are going to get nuttier this time around. Obama is being compared to both Lenin and Hitler. He is being called a Socialist , a C0mmunist, and a Fascist.

The wingnuts are organizing tea parties. The original Boston Tea Party, of course, preceded a revolution. According to the last link "America is on the brink of another revolution." They say that Obama is establishing a dictatorship. Michael Savage has predicted a Reichstag Fire type event by the government, blamed on "subversive elements" in order to establish a "naked dictatorship." Chuck Norris -- yes, that Chuck Norris-- is apparently advocating armed revolution and terrorist “cell” tactics.

We are only two months into the Obama presidency. Where will we be a year from now?

Update: Chupacabra Photographed (And you were skeptical)

Goat-Sucker on the Rampage in Mexico

Reports of El Chupacabras, "The Goatsucker," have swarmed across Mexico all month, with attacks alleged in more than half of the nation's 32 states.

"Witnesses" say the creature resembles a giant vampire bat with a huge wingspan, long fangs, bulbous fly eyes and legs like a kangaroo's.
Racist genocidal T-shirts in Gaza

A sharpshooter's T-shirt from the Givati Brigade's Shaked battalion shows a pregnant Palestinian woman with a bull's-eye superimposed on her belly, with the slogan, in English, "1 shot, 2 kills." A "graduation" shirt for those who have completed another snipers course depicts a Palestinian baby, who grows into a combative boy and then an armed adult, with the inscription, "No matter how it begins, we'll put an end to it."
It occurs to me that many in the American rightwing would probably find these shirts funny as hell.

Wingnut Watch

This WorldNetDaily article is about an organization called OathKeepers, which publishes on its website An invitation to soldiers and peace officers across the United States to pledge to refuse illegal orders – including "state of emergency" orders that could include disarming or detaining American citizens.

Their 10 point program:

Among the orders the soldiers are pledging NOT to obey:

1. We will NOT obey any order to disarm the American people. … Any such order today would also be an act of war against the American people, and thus an act of treason. We will not make war on our own people, and we will not commit treason by obeying any such treasonous order.

2.We will NOT obey any order to conduct warrantless searches of the American people, their homes, vehicles, papers, or effects – such as warrantless house-to house searches for weapons or persons. … We expect that warrantless searches of homes and vehicles, under some pretext, will be the means used to attempt to disarm the people.

3. We will NOT obey any order to detain American citizens as "unlawful enemy combatants" or to subject them to trial by military tribunal. … Any attempt to apply the laws of war to American civilians, under any pretext, such as against domestic "militia" groups the government brands "domestic terrorists," is an act of war and an act of treason.

4.We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a "state of emergency" on a state, or to enter with force into a state, without the express consent and invitation of that state's legislature and governor. … It is the militia of a state and of the several states that the Constitution contemplates being used in any context, during any emergency within a state, not the standing army.

5. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty and declares the national government to be in violation of the compact by which that state entered the Union.

6. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps. … Such tactics … by the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto, and by the Imperial Japanese in Nanking, turn[ed] entire cities into death camps. Any such order to disarm and confine the people of an American city will be an act of war and thus an act of treason.

7. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext. … Such a vile order to forcibly intern Americans without charges or trial would be an act of war against the American people, and thus an act of treason, regardless of the pretext used.

8. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to "keep the peace" or to "maintain control" during any emergency, or under any other pretext. We will consider such use of foreign troops against our people to be an invasion and an act of war.

9. We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies, under any emergency pretext whatsoever.

10. We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.
Spokesman Steware Rhodes explained their motivations, "He said the accumulation of power in the executive branch in recent years has been alarming. The fears crystallized when Obama took office and suddenly had access to the accumulated power."

It should be emphasized that although Rhodes has been concerned about "the accumulation of power in the executive branch" for several years, they did not act until a liberal Democrat became President. I agree with much of their manifesto, although this is clearly coming from the Right.

The group is going to be featured on G. Gordon Liddy's radio program. Liddy's concern for human rights and the Constituion, is selective, to say the least. The concerns about the confiscation of guns and "foreign troops" touches on rightwing fantasies that go back decades.

Now the Bush administration, for all its abuses, did not declare Martial Law and establish a dictatorship, and it is unlikely the Obama administration will either.

John Whitehead of the Ruthford Institute on martial law:

I am not alone in believing that we are just one incident--be it a terrorist attack, a major financial blowout or a widespread natural disaster--away from martial law being declared in this country. And once that happens, the Constitution and Bill of Rights will be suspended and what government officials believe and do, no matter how arbitrary, will become law.

Seymour Hersh describes 'executive assassination ring'

At a “Great Conversations” event at the University of Minnesota last night, legendary investigative reporter Seymour Hersh may have made a little more news than he intended by talking about new alleged instances of domestic spying by the CIA, and about an ongoing covert military operation that he called an “executive assassination ring.”

The Elders of Zion, the venerable and shadowy Jewish organization that controls the international banking industry, news media and Hollywood, has announced that it is disbanding so that members can retire to Florida and live out their golden years on the golf course.

“We had a good run,” said one senior Elder, reminiscing over old photographs of world leaders in his musty, wood-paneled office at an undisclosed location. “Maybe we ran the world for just a little too long. Anyway, now it’s Obama’s problem.”

Crazy Pastor Makes Crazy Predictions

David Wilkerson, author of "The Cross and the Switchblade," a book about his ministry to troubled New York street kids that was later made into a movie starring Pat Boone, tells readers of his blog this weekend that he is "compelled by the Holy Spirit to send out an urgent message" about his prediction.

"An earth-shattering calamity is about to happen," he writes. "It is going to be so frightening, we are all going to tremble – even the godliest among us."

Wilkerson's vision is of fires raging through New York City.

"It will engulf the whole megaplex, including areas of New Jersey and Connecticut. Major cities all across America will experience riots and blazing fires – such as we saw in Watts, Los Angeles, years ago," he explains. "There will be riots and fires in cities worldwide. There will be looting – including Times Square, York City. What we are experiencing now is not a recession, not even a depression. We are under God’s wrath. In Psalm 11 it is written, "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

Whack Job Alan Keye's still doesn't like Obama

"Given Obama's push to overturn constitutional government and make the U.S. a Soviet-style state," Keyes told WND, "I think it's more important than ever that those of us who believe in liberty deliberate and work together."
Funny how people who didn't object to illegal wiretaps, torture, secret prisons, weakening habeus corpus and posse comitatus are now champions of liberty.

Welcome to Terrorland: Mohamed Atta & the 9-11 Cover-up in Florida

The story of Mohammad Atta's stay in the U.S. has not yet begun to be told, but remains shrouded, deliberately hidden, part of this country's secret history, that history, in other words, in which lone gunmen play no role.
Wall Street Journal: Obama's Radicalism Is Killing the Dow

It's hard not to see the continued sell-off on Wall Street and the growing fear on Main Street as a product, at least in part, of the realization that our new president's policies are designed to radically re-engineer the market-based U.S. economy, not just mitigate the recession and financial crisis.
Mexican President Condemns U.S. Drug Corruption

"Drug trafficking in the United States is fuelled by the phenomenon of corruption on the part of the American authorities," he said on Wednesday.
Calderon acknowledged some Mexican officials had helped the cartels but said the US should ask itself how many of its own officials were implicated.

"It is not an exclusively Mexican problem, it is a common problem between Mexico and the United States," he said.

"I want to know how many American officials have been prosecuted for this [corruption]."
I believe the number is zero.
