Return from Spookyville

On June 2 I posted a piece called A short trip to Spookyville , concerning the incredible allegations of Dr. Sue Arrigo M.D., allegedly an "ex- CIA physician with high level access".

Briefly, she maintained that HIV/Aids was deliberately unleashed on the world and that there is a vaccine which has been kept secret. She also described running secret missions for Dick Cheney and to have twice treated Osama bin Laden after 9/11. My post was picked up by several conspiracy sites.

It's not that I wasn't skeptical of her claims. In fact I wrote: "Just because someone has an M.D. after her name does not mean that she may not be suffering from mental illness. "

One thing that did intrigue me, however, was that her sister Maria Arrigo, Ph.D., described herself in a paper as "a social psychologist studying intelligence ethics and as daughter of an undercover intelligence officer."

As it turns out Sue Arrigo has another sister, Linda Gail Arrigo, Ph.D. in Sociology, who left a comment on my original post stating in part:

I am sorry to say that my sister Sue Ann Arrigo has periodic episodes of paranoid schizophrenia, and this has been over a period of ten years at least. It is amazing how her wild stories have proliferated all over the web.
I have since exchanged a few emails with Linda Arrigo. She writes:

I believe that my sister Sue Ann has been having periodic bouts of paranoid schizophrenia since about 15 years ago. She is convinced that our father was both a member of the CIA and the Mafia, and that he inducted her at a young age into intelligence activities, and that she has been under mind control since then, and subject to frequent kidnapping and threats by agents, wherever she is in the world. However, she has no material or historical evidence of this other than her later memories and physical symptoms, as she reported recently for supposedly being kidnapped in Ireland in early June 2007. I talked by telephone with my mother who was with her right afterwards and accompanied her to the doctor and the police, and my mother now believes Sue Ann is subject to hallucinations.

Our father, born 1914, served 20 years in the U.S. military, about 1941-61, in Europe, the Pentagon, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. His work was logistics, not intelligence. I lived with him in Taiwan 1963-68; my sisters had virtually no contact with him after 1962. He is senile now, in San Francisco, and I sorted through most of his papers during the last few summers. He is not a pleasant personality, but I am certain he had no such CIA contacts or capacity.

If any consistent check were made on Sue Ann's schooling and employment for the last 30 years, it would be obvious that her current allegations of service as a CIA medic are pure fantasy, even if well-informed by public knowledge of current issues in U.S. government behavior.

There are enough real victims of U.S. military and intelligence actions; it is not surprising, perhaps, that victims of schizophrenia like my sister should feed on these accounts.
Given the incredible allegations of Dr. Sue Arrigo, the complete lack of supporting evidence, and this statement by her sister, I see no reason to give any credence to her claims. I wish her well.

What I don't understand is, you mention the other sister with a Ph.D. who claimed to be the daughter of an undercover intelligence officer. Doesn't that lead credence to the "crazy" sister's claims?

And as for a family not knowing that the father was undercover, or CIA, or whatever, there was plenty of that going on during WW2. Even long after the war ended, there were many families who had no idea what the father was really doing at work. That he helped to break codes during the war or something. Apparently most of these guys take their secrecy oaths seriously. And most likely, the accompanying threats.

That is documented. I didn't just make that up.

Think about the dude who was the PR officer for Roswell, who signed something only to be released after his death that said something like, "Yeah, I made all that stuff about weather balloons up. There really was an alien crash, with alien bodies. I swore an oath and obeyed it."

I mean shit, how do you even know that this person emailing is her sister and not some 22 year old intelligence intern dude on assignment?

You should visit the nearest psychiatric hospital and talk to patients. You will hear amazing stories about the CIA, alien abduction and bunnies. My brother had a friend who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and he was truly convinced that men hidding in his closet would come out and rape him during the night. One of my friend's mother would cut the cord of all electrical equipment in the house because she was sure the CIA was using electrical wire to transmit the voices in her head. And watch "A Beautiful Mind"... John Nash was really convinced he was working for spooks and that he was given secret missions.

When you look at the really incredible statements of Dr. Sue Arrigo (like a personnal mission from Cheney to visit Ben Laden), mental health problems are the first thing that come in mind.

The Internet is a perfect resonnance chamber for their paranoid fantasy since some people will believe anything.

The new information is interesting, but I agree with Captainboog that a reader cannot reliably draw any conclusion from the letter as to what is the truth and who is the truthteller. Up to the last couple paragraphs, my hunch was that the letter writer was actually an itelligence operative spreading disinformation. The last couple paragraphs seemed more likely sincere and truthful and coming from the sister Linda, as claimed, but there is no way of knowing if that was simply the intel operative finishing up his/her disinfo piece with a more adroit and believable tale.

If anyone wants to follow up with the sister, go to her comment on my original post. She supplies her telephone number.

I was skeptical of this story from the start because of its incredible nature. Incredible claims require evidence, and in this case there is none. The burden of proof is on Sue Arrigo.

Bertrand Russell once said that one should not believe a proposition when there is no grounds whatsoever for supposing it to be true.

yeah, i hear you about crazy people. that could very well be what's going on. i just think that the possibility of that 3rd sister, who apparently had supporting evidence of Sue's claims, should be addressed. imo, that was just left hanging.

i wrote a really long comment and i guess i goofed the word verification or something. probably good cause otherwise it'd be a long read :P

canary in a mine. people who are sensitive to something, will freak out, become aware of, or die before the rest of us do. there's so many examples of this.

i would suspect that much of what schizophrenic experience is real, but what they think is going on is not. just like with the rest of us. the labels and forces and ways things work that we put on top of our raw sensation, this is never true. ever. we just have common illusions, often conflicting. so you have a situation like two political parties, neither of which make sense, dominating the U.S. scene. Or a multitude of religions, all of which are bullshit.

hey, i LOVE this blog. top notch source of info.

This whole "expose" is another reminder of the limits of the Internet for ferreting out the facts. People can publish anything that promotes their political agenda (Lendman clearly was irresponsible in publishing this "expose" without checking his "source"s" allegations). Even without knowing whether Linda's statements are accurate, Sue Ann has written enough to make someone extremely skeptical as to her bona fides. She is listed as a neurologist (but calls herself a nephrologist). How would someone in her position with her background be sent by Cheney to investigate WMDs in Iraq, operate on Osama Bin Laden in the U.S. after 9/11, be given a two-star general rank by the CIA so she could sit in on meetings of the JCS (hint: civilians don't need flag officer rank to sit in on Pentagon meetings assuming they have business there, and the CIA isn't into the business of investing its civilians with military titles, as far as I know), and come across all this "material" about alleged corruption that deals with issues that seem to be far away from her bailiwick. Kidnapped and raped in Virginia, and put into a CACI torture chamber?? She also says she was involved in ESP experiments for the Pentagon and was sent by the FBI to help uncover a KGB operation against the NY Police Department's computers. She says the FBI gave her an "FBI uniform" so she could assume the identity of an FBI agent. Why would a physician know anything about any of these matters? Why would she have the access she claims to Cheney, Tenet, and Rumsfeld. She's probably banking on the principle that she can fool some of the people all the time, but she can't carry that out with all the people all the time.

Jean Maria & Sue Arrigo's MOTHER was an intellegence agent during WW2. She was written about in the local free newspaper and has spoken about it to several community groups.
