Switching Sides in Iraq

Has anyone noticed that we are switching sides in Iraq? That will not come as a great suprise to regular readers of this blog. Perhaps you remember my post of January 2006, Will the U.S. Switch Sides in Iraq?

Several times in the last several months I have hinted at the possibility that the United States might eventually switch sides in the war in Iraq. The new Shiite government in that country has close historical and religious ties to Iran. The Sunni insurgency is deeply concerned about this situation and their ties to Al Qaeda are strained.
We are now arming "former" Sunni insurgents, supposedly to combat al Qaeda and, increasingly, describing Shiites as the enemy.

U.S. blames Shiite militia for attacks

BAGHDAD - Rogue Shiite militiamen with Iranian weapons and training launched three-quarters of the attacks that killed or wounded American forces last month in Baghdad, stepping into the void left as Sunni insurgents have been dislodged, a top U.S commander said Sunday.

This was the plan to divide Iraq and it works.
