Congressman Hales Boggs was a member of the Warren Commission. In 1972 the twin engine airplane in which Boggs was traveling over a remote section of Alaska disappeared. The plane presumably crashed and was never found.

After Hale's disappearance, Lindy and Hale's brother, a Jesuit priest in New Orleans, were fearful that he had been murdered because of his inside knowledge about the role of the FBI, CIA, and organized crime in events leading up to the Kennedy assassination--knowledge that he had acquired as a member of the Warren Commission and that might also have some relevance to Watergate.

Congresswoman Boggs had expressed her fears to Congressman Bill Hungate as well as to me and Peter Rodino in the strictest confidence.
In 1971 Boggs had made an extraordinary speech on the House floor. The then-majority leader accused the Department of Justice of using "Gestapo-like" police-state tactics that included bugging the offices and homes of members of Congress and other political leaders--and in some cases using illegally obtained information to blackmail public officials.
The unreported truth was that when Boggs made the speech he ws undergoing psychiatric treatment for manic depression, and the CIA and FBI were concerned that his judgement had become sufficiently impaired to endanger national security.

Pretty interesting that Hale and Lindy's daughter, Cokie Roberts, rarely mentions her father, who, at the time of his death, was majority leader of the House. In fact, Cokie has written two books, both about mothers. It seems to me that the cabal of darkness has basically the same players and the same tactics, over and over (see Wellstone, Carnahan, Ron Brown, David Ferrie). Scary.

To the list of mysterious and suspicious deaths of Congress members I would add Patsy Mink of Hawaii and Robert Matsui of California.

Mink died of an extremely virulent lung infection shortly before the 2002 election, and Democrats in Hawaii had to scramble to get another candidate on the ballot to avoid forfeiting the election to the very weak Republican. Matsui died shortly after the 2004 election in January 2005 of a "rare blood disease" (weeks after Yasar Arafat died also of an undetermined and mysterious blood disease).

Matsui was an expert on the Social Security System, which Bush undertook to "save" in order to destroy it, just weeks after Matsui's death. A journalist I know with CIA contacts told me she received a tip from one of her informants that Matsui died of "Arafat disease" and suggested the real cause was a particular chemical which simulates a blood disease.

Mink was a leader in legislation relating to regulation of toxic substances, such as asbestos, in which Cheney and Bush had a deep and compelling interest through Dresser Industries, acquired by Halliburton in the 1990's. Dresser (in which the Bush family has had long ties and financial interests) had huge asbestos liability claims against it which Halliburton was on the hook for absorbing, thanks to Dick Cheney.
