Kerry's Joke: OK, the meaning is clearer but it's still not funny. Kerry should not attempt humor. Let me see if I can jazz it up a little:
"Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting stuck between Iraq and a hard place. Just ask President Bush--cuz he's REALLY STUPID."

It's all in the delivery. Imagine Woody Allen -- the 1970 Woody, transported to our time -- doing the joke:

(stuttering, fumbling, straightening of tie)
"...president. Okay, bad example."
