Mike at Born at the Crest of the Empire directs us to this astonishing fact:
One year after Katrina, large areas of New Orleans remain virtually uninhabitable. Only $117 million in at least $25 billion in federal aid has reached the city, while federal investigators determined that roughly $2 billion in taxpayer money was wasted in no-bid contracts and disaster aid to people who did not need the help.
Incompetence in itself cannot explain this--only corruption on a massive scale. Untold billions have been diverted in both New Orleans and Iraq.

i don't think you can lump Iraq and New Orleans together like that. While i will say that i'm sure there has been plenty of waste and probably some corruption in Iraq, i don't think it's anywhere near what's going on in New Orleans. As we know, it's called the BIG EASY for a reason and i would be surprised if we DON'T find out that a lot of people have their hands in the cookie jar down there.
