Earl Warren (of the Warren Commission) at the Bohemian Grove

a 1941 photo of Earl Warren and some other members of the University of California, Berkeley class of 1912 at the Bohemian Grove. Warren, who would later become Governor of California and then Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, is at the left of the photo. The group is posing in front of the Lamp of Fellowship at the base of the Grove's Owl Shrine [where the child sacrifice and cremation takes place].

I am actually not completely sure that they sacrifice childen at the Bohemian Grove.

Lee Foreman had an interesting post today on John Simkin's JFK assassination forum. The subject of his post was "Allegations of Homosexuality & JFK Assassination" and contained this from retired soldier of fortune Gerry Patrick Hemming:
This was the trend for QK/ENCHANT agents [that is homo- or bisexuality-GB], the threat of exposure during those times was "Draconian" to say the least, especially where these agents were VIP business, military, and political types!!

As you know, QK/ENCHANT agents were those who originally were interviewed by the old "00" Domestic Contact Service, and were later given POAs [Provisional Operational Approvals-GB] to be "dispatched" abroad to further increase their knowledge base of targeted persons or entities, and then switched to the control of Angleton's CI operators.

To me it seemed an extremely logical operation, since the MOSSAD and Brits had discovered that this "underground community" was a rich resource, and reached up into the presidential palaces worldwide. Very valuable assets, especially where they were doubled by Western CI divisions amongst our close allies.

Oswald in New Orleans

For those of you who may have missed the Winter 1980 issue of Louisiana History here are some excerpts from "Lee Harvey Oswald in New Orleans: A Reappraisal" by Professor Michael L. Kurtz

Oswald listed the address of his Fair Play for Cuba Committee as 544 Camp Street. This is in the same building as the private detective offices of W. Guy Banister, a former FBI agent and New Orleans police official. A well known-leader of the right-wing extremist element in New Orleans...

Banister and Oswald were seen together on numerous occasions. Once, the two were observed having coffee in Mancuso's Restaurant, located on the first floor of the Camp Street building. On another occasion they were seen in the restaurant with David Ferrie and Carlos Quiroga, a Cuban exile leader. Several times Oswald was seen entering Banister's second floor office. One of Oswald's co-workers saw Oswald and Banister walking together on Camp Street. One person remembers seeing the two at a White Citizen's Council meeting. Two people remember Oswald as one of the participants in a discussion of the racial issue. The discussion, whikch took place on the campus of Louisiana State University in New Orleans, involved Oswald and Banister debating federal integration policies with a number of students.

If Oswald was simply a pro-Cuban Marxist, as the Warren Commission claimed, it is curious that he would have spent so much time in the company of Guy Banister.

David Ferrie was very active in the anti-Castro activities in New Orleans from 1959 through 1963. He and Lee Harvey Oswald were seen together several times in the summer of 1963.Twice they were seen conversing in Mancuso's Restaurant. They were seen at a segragationist meeting in the late spring of that year. In August they were seen at a party in the French Quarter. According to two people who attended the party, Oswald and Ferrie discussed United States foreign policy, especially with regard to Cuba. Both men expressed strong disapproval of the failure to overthrow the Castro regime.

One feature of Oswald's five-month sojourn in New Orleans that has never been revealed is the fact that he made several trips to Baton Rouge in the summer of 1963. According to witnesses, Oswald accompanied a prominent leader of the White Citizen's Council and of other segregationist organizations to Baton Rouge six or eight times in July and August. These witnesses met Oswald, who was introduced to them as "Leon" Oswald. Oswald's companion, who was a personal friend of two of these witnesses, stated that he was employing "Leon" to do construction work for him. Oswald, however, was not dressed in work clothes; he was wearing what appeared to be "dressy clothes." Furthermore, Oswald and his companion engaged indiscussions which included criticisms of American foreign policy as being "soft on Communism" and of the United States civil-rights programs. On their last visit to Baton Rouge, the two men were accompanied by two "Latins," neither of whom said anything to them.

Professor Kurtz interviewd many of these witnesses personally. Professor Kurtz also later revealed that one of the witnesses, who observed Oswald with Banister both at Mancuso's Restaurant and Louisiana State University, was Professor Kurtz himself. Although Oswald's associations with right-wingers Ferrie and Banister do not fit into Professor Kurt's own theories of the assassination (he leans toward Castro as being behind the assassination, he nontheless reluctantly included himself as a witness to history. Although most would consider an historian as a credible witness to historical events, this has not stopped some from attempting to discredit Professor Kurtz, although no one has come up with any good reason as to why he should not be believed.

The Gemstone File

I have created a new site to feature the results of my research into The Gemstone File, concerning which I am the World's Leading Authority. The url is and there is a link to it at the right under Research Projects, along with my site on the McCone-Rowley memo. One day soon I will post the whole 350 or so pages of the real Gemstone File, consisting of the letters of Bruce Roberts. The following is my first post on the new site. For more check it out.

1. Most people have only seen The Skeleton Key to the Gemstone File which is a brief summary, approximately 23 pages of the actual Gemstone File which was consisted of about 350 pages of letters of the late Bruce Roberts which Stephanie Caruana saw in the files of the late Mae Brussell. There have been six books written about Gemstone and none of the authors of those books had ever seen the Roberts letters (Kenn Thomas had one page which he received from Martin Cannon--the author of an internet article titled Gemstone Exposed. Martin Cannon has a copy of the whole set and so do I. One day soon I will post the whole thing.

2. These six books all say that the Skeleton Key was first published in Hustler in 1979. Not true--I located a version of the Key which was published in City of San Francisco magazine in 1975. This version has a few interesting differences from other versions--for one thing it lists the Mossad as a participant in the JFK conspiracy. This magazine (edited by Warren Hinckle and published by Francis Ford Coppola, director of The Godfather) also contains an account by a group called the DNA Research Collective of their meeting with Bruce Roberts. This group also put on a play about Jack Ruby called Sparky and Truth Detector.

3. Bruce Roberts was somewhere between extremely eccentric and clinical. Nonetheless he may have had an actual source on the assassination. According to Stephanie Caruana (the author of the Skeleton Key) his brother Dayle was married to a woman Marina whose brother Antonio Iglesias had knowledge of the assassination. He was described as a CIA and Mafia connected anti-Castro Cuban. (Aren't they all?)

Further research indicates that he existed and that his full name was Antonio Iglesias Pons--a member of Brigade 2506 and described in one CIA document as a "former employee" of the CIA. This individual is also mentioned as being involved in the year 2000 plot to kill Castro which was headed by Luis Posada Carriles--recently in the news.

4. The Skeleton Key mentions "Project Star"--described as a top-secret study of the assassination conducted by Rand. Roberts had no inside source here--this study was mentioned in an article in Ramparts by Anthony Russo (associated with Daniel Ellsberg in the Pentagon Papers case.) Penn Jones also picked up on this reference. This study did exist and was conducted by DARPA (actually known as ARPA at the time as I recall.) It was a study of Presidential Security. I have a list of the Project Star reports but not the reports themselves.

5. It was my Gemstone research by the way that indirectly led me to the now infamous McCone-Rowley memo. See

The source who provided that document to me, James L. Moore, has also claimed to be the real author of the Skeleton Key. I believe that he may have submitted the Skeleton Key to Hustler before they published it, but that they already had it from other sources.
Intelligent Design Still in the News

Yesterday, the defense team danced through a list of renowned biologists -- Richard Dawkins, Stephen Jay Gould and Francis Crick included -- and offered quotes and book snippets from these biologists, showing that they can talk about religion and God without compromising their standing as scientists.

Crick, the Nobel Prize-winning DNA researcher, suggested in a book that life could have been put on Earth by space aliens. That fits neatly into the intelligent design concept, whose supporters try not to identify the designer whom they believe is behind nature's complex machinery.

Regular readers of this blog will know that I believe that life was put on this planet by an alien being who has come to be known (somewhat disrespectfully, I think) as the Flying Spaghetti Monster. (At the very least this theory is equally as valid as Intelligent Design). Here is a drawing of His Noodlyness:

The McCone-Rowley Memo

Several years ago I posted on the internet a document that I had acquired from a former tabloid writer, who said that he had received it from an FBI agent in Tennessee, somewhat to my dismay as I have the most serious doubts as to its authenticity. In the last few years this document has begun popping up all over the place. I have started a new site in which I plan to put together all the information I have on this subject.

The War is Lost

There is no more knowledgeable observer of the situation in Iraq than Professor Juan Cole and he is becoming increasingly pessimistic:

An observer in Iraq writes to me: "The situation has deteriorated in Baghdad dramatically today. Five neighborhoods (hay) in Baghdad are controlled by insurgents, and they are Amiraya, Ghazilya, Shurta, Yarmouk and Doura. It is very bad. My guys there report that cars have come into these neighborhoods and blocked off the streets. Masked gunmen with AKs and other weapons are roaming these areas, announcing that people should stay home. One of my drivers in Amiraya reports that his neighborhood is shut down totally, and even those who need food or provisions are warned not to go out.

An academic sent me this:

"Yesterday I talked with a 2nd Lt and West Point grad who has just come back from Iraq. He says flat out that the war is lost, that "we" only control territory when the troops are there in massive numbers and that "they" take over as soon as the troops leave, that the army is over-extended and morale is terrible -- drug use is escalating -- that there still isn't enough armor, that the Iraqi army and police are worse than useless, and that senior officers are convinced that it is Vietnam redux.

In the meantime, the embassy people act as if nothing in Baghdad is wrong (except that they cannot walk in the Green Zone without body armor and they have to take precautions against kidnapping). Recently, a group from State and the military parachuted in from Washington [with fatuous advice] . . . It is a fantasy world."

In 1967 noted historian and political activist Howard Zinn published a book called Vietnam--The Logic of Withdrawal. Recently he has come out in favor of withdrawing from Iraq in an interview with Raw Story.

We have faced the same situation in Iraq that we faced in Vietnam two years into the war, that some people began calling for withdrawal from Vietnam. And in fact I wrote the book, Vietnam: The Logic of Withdrawal which came out in the spring of '67, which was exactly two years after the war had begun. When I wrote that book, Vietnam: The Logic of Withdrawal, because it seemed evident by that time; it seemed clear by that time that this war was wrong, that it was immoral, and that the only proper thing to do was to get out of Vietnam as fast as possible.

The same arguments that were made then are made now. And what happened of course was that we did not get out of there. We did not withdraw for another six years, and in the course of that time huge numbers of people died. Today there is a timidity in our political leadership about calling for withdrawal. The farthest they can come in direction of boldness is the suggestion that maybe in the end of 2006 troops might be withdrawn.

But there is no major political leader who's calling for immediate withdrawal, and that's shameful. Because people are going to die as a result as the continuation of the war. And the same arguments that were made then at the time of Vietnam against withdrawal are being made now. "Well, we're in it too deep and we can't get out, our prestige will be hurt if we leave," it's sort of ridiculous.

The time to have declared victory and pulled our troops out was after the elections in Iraq. Now I fear that the best we can do is to admit defeat and leave. This will not happen soon, of course, but it will happen.

Stripper Alert

In the best news out of New Orleans lately Deja Vu Showgirls has reopened. Exotic dancer Alexis is shown here entertaining police, rescue and fire workers.

I am not sure if the women in this photo are strippers but I would like to see them naked.

Same here.

Faced with the biggest crisis of his political life, President Bush has hit the bottle again, The National Enquirer can reveal.
Bush, who said he quit drinking the morning after his 40th birthday, has started boozing amid the Katrina catastrophe.
A Washington source said: "The sad fact is that he has been sneaking drinks for weeks now. Laura may have only just caught him — but the word is his drinking has been going on for a while in the capital. He's been in a pressure cooker for months.

Recruits Sought for Porn Squad

By Barton GellmanWashington Post Staff Writer Tuesday, September 20, 2005; Page A21

The FBI is joining the Bush administration's War on Porn. And it's looking for a few good agents. Early last month, the bureau's Washington Field Office began recruiting for a new anti-obscenity squad. Attached to the job posting was a July 29 Electronic Communication from FBI headquarters to all 56 field offices, describing the initiative as "one of the top priorities" of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and, by extension, of "the Director." That would be FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III.

"I guess this means we've won the war on terror," said one exasperated FBI agent, speaking on the condition of anonymity because poking fun at headquarters is not regarded as career-enhancing. "We must not need any more resources for espionage."

The new squad will divert eight agents, a supervisor and assorted support staff to gather evidence against "manufacturers and purveyors" of pornography -- not the kind exploiting children, but the kind that depicts, and is marketed to, consenting adults.

Among friends and trusted colleagues, an experienced national security analyst said, "it's a running joke for us."

A few of the printable samples:

"Things I Don't Want On My Resume, Volume Four."

"I already gave at home."

"Honestly, most of the guys would have to recuse themselves."

    Playing both Sides

Even though a pro-Iranian Shiite government is taking power in Iraq the neo-Cons in the Bush administration continue to accuse Iran of supporting the insurgents. This may even be true—in the real world playing both sides against each other is not uncommon. Are the United States and Britain doing the same? Is the Coalition acting to destabilize the new government we are ostensibly supporting?

(CNN) -- British forces in Iraq are patrolling a tense city after UK armored vehicles crashed into a detention center in Basra and later rescued two undercover troops apparently held by Shiite militia.

The dramatic raid on Monday followed a day of rioting in the southern Iraqi city, sparked when the two soldiers were said by police and local officials to have fired on an Iraqi police patrol.

An Iraqi official, who spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity, said the soldiers' arrests stemmed from an incident earlier in the day. The official said two unknown gunmen in full Arabic dress began firing on civilians in central Basra, wounding several, including a traffic police officer. There were no fatalities, the official said.

The two gunmen fled the scene but were captured and taken in for questioning, admitting they were British Marines carrying out a "special security task," the official said.

Here are some excerpts from an Asia Times story of last February that did not get the attention it deserved:

Feb 15, 2005 -To head off this threat of a Shi'ite clergy-driven religious movement, the US has, according to Asia Times Online investigations, resolved to arm small militias backed by US troops and entrenched in the population to "nip the evil in the bud".

Asia Times Online has learned that in a highly clandestine operation, the US has procured Pakistan-manufactured weapons, including rifles, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, ammunition, rockets and other light weaponry. Consignments have been loaded in bulk onto US military cargo aircraft at Chaklala airbase in the past few weeks. The aircraft arrived from and departed for Iraq.

The US-armed and supported militias in the south will comprise former members of the Ba'ath Party, which has already split into three factions, only one of which is pro-Saddam Hussein. They would be expected to receive assistance from pro-US interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's Iraqi National Accord.

Hopefully these weapons are not being used against US troops.

Excerpts from an article that made me go hmm...,10987,1029805,00.html

Talking with the Enemy By Michael Ware Time Sunday 20 February 2005

Inside the secret dialogue between the U.S. and insurgents in Iraq - and what the rebels say they want.

The secret meeting is taking place in the bowels of a facility in Baghdad, a cavernous, heavily guarded building in the U.S.-controlled green zone. The Iraqi negotiator, a middle-aged former member of Saddam Hussein's regime and the senior representative of the self-described nationalist insurgency, sits on one side of the table. He is here to talk to two members of the U.S. military. One of them, an officer, takes notes during the meeting. The other, dressed in civilian clothes, listens as the Iraqi outlines a list of demands the U.S. must satisfy before the insurgents stop fighting. The parties trade boilerplate complaints: the U.S. officer presses the Iraqi for names of other insurgent leaders; the Iraqi says the newly elected Shi'a-dominated government is being controlled by Iran. The discussion does not go beyond generalities, but both sides know what's behind the coded language.

The Iraqi's very presence conveys a message: Members of the insurgency are open to negotiating an end to their struggle with the U.S. "We are ready," he says before leaving, "to work with you." (emphasis added).

    Have they no shame?

According to this article in Time the Republicans are looking for a wealthy victim of Katrina to help make a case for the elimination of the estate tax. Have they no shame? (This is a rhetorical question, of course--to ask it is to answer it.)

Looking for a Corpse to Make a Case
Senators look for a wealthy casualty of Katrina as evidence against the estate tax

Federal troops aren't the only ones looking for bodies on the Gulf Coast. On Sept. 9, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions called his old law professor Harold Apolinsky, co-author of Sessions' legislation repealing the federal estate tax, which was encountering sudden resistance on the Hill. Sessions had an idea to revitalize their cause, which he left on Apolinsky's voice mail: "[Arizona Sen.] Jon Kyl and I were talking about the estate tax. If we knew anybody that owned a business that lost life in the storm, that would be something we could push back with." ...

Has he found any victims of both the hurricane and the estate tax? "Not yet," Apolinsky says. "But I'm still looking."

    Intelligent Design
In Kansas and throughout the United States religious fundamentalists are trying to sneak their creationist religious views into our public schools under the theory of Intelligent Design (if you capitalize it it’s more scientific). They are a bit vague as to just who is the Designer. After all, if they come right out and say it's God—well, then that’s religion not science you see. So they fudge the issue—some have even said the the designer could be an alien.

This has led Bobby Henderson, an unemployed physics graduate to advance the theory that life on earth was created by an alien being he has dubbed the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM). The FSM revealed himself to Henderson in a dream. Henderson has written to the Kansas Board of Education demanding that if they mandate teaching the theory of Intelligent Design in their schools that the FSM theory be included as well.

His letter states, "I think we can all look forward to the time when these three theories are given equal time in our science classrooms across the country, and eventually the world; One third time for Intelligent Design, one third time for Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, and one third time for logical conjecture based on overwhelming observable evidence."

A number of scientists have endorsed this idea, saying that both forms of Intelligent Design—ID and FSM-ID (Flying Spaghetti Monsterism) are equally valid.

"As a scientist, I'd like to say that the currently accepted scientific theory is evolution. But, some competing ideas have been proposed, such as ID and FSMism, and discussion to include one should include the other, as these ideas are equally valid."-- Mark Zurbuchen, Ph.D.

  • Probably the most important story posted on the internet yesterday was on Brad Friedman's site. Here are a few excerpts:

In exclusive stunning admissions to The BRAD BLOG some 11 months after the 2004 Presidential Election, a "Diebold Insider" is now finally speaking out for the first time about the alarming security flaws within Diebold, Inc's electronic voting systems, software and machinery. The source is acknowledging that the company's "upper management" -- as well as "top government officials" -- were keenly aware of the "undocumented backdoor" in Diebold's main "GEM Central Tabulator" software well prior to the 2004 election. A branch of the Federal Government even posted a security warning on the Internet

The "Cyber Security Alert" from US-CERT was issued in late August of 2004 and is still available online via the
US-CERT website. The alert warns that "A vulnerability exists due to an undocumented backdoor account, which could [sic: allow] a local or remote authenticated malicious user [sic: to] modify votes."

"I believe that top Government officials had an understanding with top Diebold officials to look the other way," the source explained, "because Diebold was their ace in the hole."

"A very serious malicious person can change the outcome of any Diebold election"

FEMA, La. outsource Katrina body count
to firm implicated in body-dumping scandals

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has hired Kenyon International to set up a mobile morgue for handling bodies in Baton Rouge, Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina...

Kenyon is a subsidiary of Service Corporation International (SCI), a scandal-ridden Texas-based company operated by a friend of the Bush family. Recently, SCI subsidiaries have been implicated in illegally discarding and desecrating corpses.

The Menorah Gardens cemetery chain, owned by SCI, desecrated vaults, removed hundreds of bodies from two cemeteries in Florida and dumped the gruesome remains in woods frequented by wild hogs, investigators discovered in 2001. In one case, a backhoe was used to crack open a vault, remove corpses and make room for more dead bodies.

SCI also owned fifteen funeral homes named as defendants in a lawsuit filed on behalf of family members alleging "macabre mishandling, abuse and desecration of bodies" by Tri-State Crematory in Georgia. The lawsuit accused SCI-owned funeral homes of sending bodies to the unlicensed, unregulated crematorium, where never-incinerated corpses were found piled outdoors and stuffed in sheds in 2000

    Ned Touchstone

(from The Councilor, April 20, 1968)

BIRMINGHAM—You can lift another eyebrow as a salute to the strange facts surrounding the death of Martin Luther King.

At the time of his death the Justice Department clutched absolute proof of a massive car theft ring involving Martin Luther King and other leaders in the so-called Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

More than 40 U.S. Congressman had been briefed by the FBI regarding King’s nighttime activities. The facts were cold. Brutal. Not the kind of stuff that the Councilor prints. But it was the kind that could cause a preacher to lose his job.

Southern congressmen wanted their Northern colleagues to “blow the whistle” on King regarding his connections with communism, personal life, and the car stealing racket which he headed. One of them looked across his desk at me months before the assassin’s bullet struck and said, “Ned, they’ve got to kill him. Everybody knows too much about King. You can’t have a tarnished hero, but you could have a tarnished martyr. This stuff about the white woman—it would be better if a Northern Member put it in the Record. They wouldn’t pay any attention to a

“Congressman,” I asked my informant, “What about the car theft ring? My paper isn’t interested in the recordings the FBI says it has regarding this preacher and the white woman, But we ARE interested in why King and his boys haven’t had to stand trial for stealing all those cars in Georgia and South Carolina. We ARE interested in the American people being told the facts about his illegal dealings with foreign nations and the Soviet money he received in New York.”

“It’s in the Record already. Your paper printed the story a couple of years ago, and the whole car theft thing was put in the Congressional Record by Congressman Andrews. Nobody ever did anything. The Justice Department would hand you or me for accidentally taking a dime but the King image has protection from the White House.”(He referred to the item placed in the Congressional Record on March 30, 1966 showing that King was a car thief, and to stories in The Councilor on May 6 and July 28, 1966 about the car thefts.)

Because the FBI had informed so many congressmen about King’s sordid personal life and his connections with communism, there has been guarded speculation the FBI itself “may have” participated in the King assassination. The Councilor’s investigation discounts FBI help to the assassin.

Whoever killed King wanted (1) a martyr, and (2) passage of the 1968 civil rights bill.

FBI Chief J. Edgar Hoover was no admirer of Martin Luther King. Nothing that the FBI had done—with possible exception of silly activities just before the Selma march—would hint that this bureau wanted King on a pedestal. The Justice Department coverup of King’s car thefts and Red connections I s nowhere mirrored in the FBI’s dealings with King, even though FBI is part of the Justice Department.

    KGB, CIA?

The Councilor is not ready to discount the possibility that the CIA or some other secret KGB-type of organization carried out the assassination assignment.

King’s announced march on the U.S. capitol would have brought down the wrath of Congress. At least one of those members would be counted upon to tell the American public the true facts about MLK. In the trauma of the moment, these facts would have found an audience.

King began to lose his usefulness to the International Conspiracy shortly after the Selma march. Southerners erected billboards showing him at a Communist Training School (Highlander). Millions of copies of the contraband were distributed.

This effort hurt King in his first invasion of Chicago. Money quite coming from the “little givers: and the full cost of his activities fell back to the Warburgs, Soviet agents and the little gang of professional revolutionists who first launched King into national orbit.

The man was bull-headed. Like John Kennedy he often insisted on doing things his way. His way was sometimes the stupid way.

Americans have been treated to the sorry spectacle of what looks like a ghost chase. Day after day Attorney General Clark says, in effect. “We’re getting hot. We have a name. We don’t know who did it but we know he was a Loner like Oswald!”

How could he “know” the suspect was a loner? He might know that the suspect was part of an assassination-apparatus, but he could not possibly know in advance of an arrest that the man was a “loner.”

The name bannered in the daily newspapers is Eric S. Galt. But if there is such a person—and there may be—why hasn’t someone come forward who has known him since childhood? Or worked with him? Or dated him in high school?

Is it possible that an assassination apparatus used the two old gimmicks on which they build so many of their blood dramas?

    (a) The expert assassin who assumes a false identity land lays low for months or years.
    (b) The throw-away rifle which is always left at the death scene to give a hot trail to the fall guy.

King died at the very moment the Civil Rights Civil War need a martyr. At each time in recent history when a civil rights bill was “hung” in Congress, the nation saw a dramatic assassination, death, or shooting incident to whip up sympathy and win passage. It’s an old pattern.

The martyr was shot from a communal bathroom in a nearby rooming house, after he stepped out on a motel balcony. Consider the timing. If you were an assassin, how long would you stand in a communal bathroom with a rifle? Wouldn’t it attract attention of other guests?

Wouldn’t you have to know exactly when a man would step out of his comfortable room into the cold night air where you could get a good shot?

In photographs of King taken in the days just before the assassination he appeared to be drugged. One series on TV showed two of his associates practically dragging him as he stood with glassed eyes and frozen face. Is this our imagination? Or did you see it too? What was going on?

Several days after the assassination a Republican congressman (Martin, Ala.) disclosed the briefing he had received from the FBI. He specifically told of King’s connection to communism and the FBI’s allegations of gross immorality. Other congressmen have repeated the stories privately but Martin spoke for publication at a GOP meeting in Shreveport.

Future issues of The Councilor will contain photo documents concerning the Martin Luther King Car Theft Ring, pictures of King with communists, and copies of Abernathy’s correspondence with key Reds. Does anyone want to make a bet that we don’t have this material? And we’ve taken the precautions of making extra copies and placing them with other people. Just in case.

Now, why post a decades-old and scurillous attack on Dr. King? No, I do not think Dr. King ran a Car Theft Ring. Nonetheless, this is a most interesting article. Note that the author was Ned Touchstone, who had corresponded with Joseph Milteer, who, according to an FBI informant, had advance knowledge of the JFK assassination. Touchstone's newspaper The Councilor also featured the earliest articles about suspected JFK assassination conspirator David Ferrie.

Gore airlifts victims from New Orleans

Former vice president chartered two private aircraft

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Al Gore helped airlift some 270 Katrina evacuees on two private charters from New Orleans, acting at the urging of a doctor who saved the life of the former vice president's son.

Gore criticized the Bush administration's slow response to Katrina in a speech Friday in San Francisco, but refused to be interviewed about the mercy missions he financed and flew on September 3 and 4.
On September 1, three days after Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast, Simon learned that Dr. David Kline, a neurosurgeon who operated on Gore's son, Albert, after a life-threatening auto accident in 1989, was trying to get in touch with Gore. Kline was stranded with patients at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

"The situation was dire and becoming worse by the minute -- food and water running out, no power, 4 feet of water surrounding the hospital and ... corpses outside," Simon wrote.

Gore responded immediately, telephoning Kline and agreeing to underwrite the $50,000 each for the two flights, although Larry Flax, founder of California Pizza Kitchens, later pledged to pay for one of them.

"None of the airlines involved required a contract or any written guarantee of payment before sending their planes and volunteer crews," Simon wrote of the American Airlines flights. "One official said if Gore promised to pay, that was good enough for them."

DeLay to evacuees: 'Is this kind of fun?'

U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's visit to Reliant Park this morning offered him a glimpse of what it's like to be living in shelter.

While on the tour with top administration officials from Washington, including U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao and U.S. Treasury Secretary John W. Snow, DeLay stopped to chat with three young boys resting on cots.

The congressman likened their stay to being at camp and asked, "Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?"

They nodded yes, but looked perplexed.

JFK assassination shocker—The secret they kept under wraps for 24 years

    By Kenn Harrell

(This is an article from the tabloid Globe, dated November 15, 1988)

JACK RUBY, who murdered President John F. Kennedy’s assassin 25 years ago, is still alive, says a woman who describes herself as a retired government agent.

Ruby, says the ex-agent, helped to plot the assassination and has lived for more than two decades under the protective custody of CIA agents also involved in the JFK shooting. The Dallas nightclub owner, she says, was given a new identity—and a new face.

“He’s not dead—but he wishes he was,” the ex-agent told GLOBE in a series of exclusive interviews conducted during three days of mysterious, cloak-and-dagger meetings in Georgia.

Ruby officially died of cancer in a prison hospital in 1967 while awaiting a new trial two years after his conviction and death sentence for murdering Lee Harvey Oswald was overturned by an appeals court on technical grounds.

But Vergie Lunsford, 77, a tiny, silver-haired widow, says she worked as a spy with Ruby for 13 years and knows where he is today—and it’s not in a cemetery.

Lunsford says Ruby confessed to her that he helped plan the assassination and stood next Lee Harvey Oswald in the window of the Texas Book Depository while Oswald fired one shot that struck the President in the head.

She says he told her: “I was there with him until the rifle was fired, and then left,” adding that two other agents on the grassy knoll also shot Kennedy.

Lunsford says she agreed to talk with GLOBE only after Jack Ruby okayed the meeting.

She arranged for me to be taken to a soundproof room to hear a tape recording of a conversation with Ruby in which the gravelly voiced mystery man directs her to “get the truth out.”

    Secret code

Lunsford says she has known Ruby for more than half a century. Under the name of Gene Dunbar, he was her contact from 1933 to 1945 when she was a secret government. “He was one of the best agents in the business,” she says.

“I believed he was dead until he contacted me, using our secret code word, in 1980.

“Jack Ruby has been brainwashed. He’s undergone numerous electric shock treatments in an attempt to make him forget the past. And now he is a tired, tortured man who wishes he had really died of cancer—instead of having to live as someone else for all these years.”

Lunsford says she and her late husband, Leon, also an agent, met the man who claimed to be Ruby at an inn in Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta.

“We were suspicious of this man,” she recalls. “His face had been redone.

    The real Ruby

“To my surprise, he grabbed a wrought-iron chair and swung it around backward and straddled it—exactly the way he always sat when we knew him. I looked at Leon, and he lifted his eyebrow. It was the first sign that this was Gene Dunbar, the real Jack Ruby.

“When he began to talk, the language, the swear words that he always used, spilled out. He carried a tape recorder and flicked it on—to play music like we did in the old days, to drown out the conversation. Also, his terrible table manners had not improved.” Lunsford, who has written an unpublished book about Ruby, says she first me him in Atlanta in 1933, when she was engaged to marry Leon.

She delivered a package to the man she would know as Gene Dunbar. He recruited her to work for a government intelligence agency, she says.

“I took the name of Annabel Mills,” she recounts. “My husband was already working under the name of Leo Leach. Gene and my husband carried guns. I never did. To my knowledge Leon never shot anyone. I only know of one man Gene shot—and that was Lee Harvey Oswald.”

In a few years, Lunsford and her husband became the parents of two children, and in 1945, she says, they retired from counter-intelligence work. “The next time I saw Gene Dunbar was on television, and when he shot down Lee Harvey Oswald,” she says. “I was shocked, but I knew that for whatever reason he was doing this, it was government work.

Like the rest of America, Lunsford believed the reports of Ruby’s death in 1967—until, in 1980, she received a bizarre letter without a return address.

“When I opened the letter, chills ran up and down my body,” she says. “The letter was typewritten. It read ‘Gen Dunbar, Jack Ruby. Real name Jacob Rubenstein.’ Then it gave a secret code word that we had used for 12 years.”

The letter was postmarked Chicago, so Lunsford ran a discreet ad in a Windy City newspaper. A few days later, her phone rang. “At first, I didn’t believe it was him,” she says. “I tested him on things that only he and I and Leon would know. His mind was fuzzy. He groped for answers. There were long pauses on the phone. He told me that he had been brainwashed, that he had undergone so much hell with electric shock treatment that it had taken all these years to remember who I was.”

Lunsford was still suspicious, so she traveled to Chicago to meet the man face-to-face.

“I was surprised when the address he gave me turned out to be a nursing home,’ she says. “An old man came down the hall calling ‘Virginia,’ the name he always called me when we were alone. I didn’t know the face, but I knew the walk. His hair was long and scraggly. He was wearing a shabby bathrobe and was in his stockinged feet. The only thing halfway recognizable about him was his nose.”

After the visit, Lunsford says Ruby telephoned her often, and in August, 1982, came to Georgia to visit her. “It was on top of Stone Mountain that he told me about the assassination,” she says.

He also described how fellow agents had whished him away from the prison hospital where he had been treated for stomach problems.

    Plastic surgery

“They took him to Mexico where he underwent plastic surgery and was given the identity he now uses,” she says. “The man buried in Ruby’s grave was an unknown prisoner who actually did die of cancer.

“Gene says he was kept under virtual house arrest for years. He went through a period of brain washing where his mind was altered so that he would forget details of the events.

“He vaguely remembers being taken to a Mexican prison where the brainwashing took place. At least he thinks it was a prison.

“For years, he says, he has lived with a blurry past. But in recent years, somehow, it was all coming back—piece by piece. He wanted to tell his story after his arrest, but they didn’t let him.

“He did get to talk to Washington correspondent Dorothy Kilgallen, but she died at here desk while writing the story. She was one of many who died in those early days after Kennedy was killed.”

    (Sidebar to story:)

    The Ruby tape—an amazing real-life cloak-and-dagger drama

My meetings with self-described intelligence agent Vergie Lunsford were like something out of a spy movie. In one weekend, she moved between three “safe houses,” phoning me from each of them in turn.

“I never stay in the same place twice,” she said. “No one knows where I live. I can’t be traced.”

One meeting took place in a moving cable car on Georgia’s Stone Mountain, where we couldn’t be bugged. On another occasion we met in a crowd to drown out voices. To hear the recent taped conversation supposedly between Lunsford and Ruby, I was instructed to go to a remote country mansion and ushered into a soundproof basement room by a man who held his hand in his pocket the whole time I was there—as though he had a gun in it.

    Frankly, I was nervous.

Lunsford explained the reason for Ruby’s breaking his silence was a story in GLOBE on September 6 this year.

In the story, Esther Ann Mash, Ruby’s ex-girlfriend, told of meetings between the two and identified Ruby as the sniper on the grassy knoll who fired the lethal bullet into JFK’s head.

The tape played to me in the soundproof room was chilling.

In it, the man said to be Ruby calls Esther Mash a foul name, says he was never in love with her and accuses her of lying about his shooting JFK.

“Esther can say anything she likes because I’m classified in the grave,” the voice says on the tape. Lunsford replied: “Well, she’ll be surprised to know you’re still alive.”

“How is she going to know?” says the gravelly voiced man. “She don’t know I’m alive. I can’t let anybody know that because I don’t want to be bust off, because that is what would happen to me for sure if it got out.

“That’s why they gave me plastic surgery, a new identity. No one knows what I look like today—except you.

“ I remember the first time I ever took a life,” the man adds. “I felt awfully bad the first time. But after a while, I got used to it. It’s either them, you or I. That’s the way it works.”

Lunsford: “Mash says you blew the president’s head off.”

The man replied: "You know where I was . You saw the photograph. You could see me up in the window right after the shot. That was not me on the grass knoll. (He laughs.) That’s … that’s the man I told to be there. I knew who he was from the photo they gave me the day before the assassination.”

"What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle)--this is working very well for them." -- Barbara Bush

    The GOPs post-Katrina priorities:

GOP Agenda in Congress May Be at Risk

Katrina's Costs, High Fuel Prices Working Against More Tax Cuts

By Jonathan WeismanWashington Post Staff Writer

    Sunday, September 4, 2005;

Republican leaders intended to return to work with a dream agenda for small-government conservatives: permanent repeal of the estate tax, an extension of deep cuts to capital gains and dividend taxes, the first entitlement spending cuts in nearly a decade, and the advent of private investment accounts for Social Security.

I guess there is no problem that can't be solved by cutting taxes for the rich.

GOP leaders will have to justify additional tax relief for upper-income people at a time of civil and economic crisis. "How do you do tax cuts when your budget is straining to save lives?" asked Rep. Mark Foley (R Fla).

Yes, that is just what we need right now: "additional tax-relief for upper-income people". Is this what they call compassionate conservatism?

Marshall Wittmann, a former Republican political strategist now with the centrist Democratic Leadership Council, said the GOP agenda looks like "political suicide."

    Let's hope so.

    Milteer's Response

    Valdesta, Ga.
    Feb. 9, 1969

    Mr. Ned Touchstone
    1827 Texas Avenue
    Shreveport, La.

    Dear Mr. Touchstone:

Quite some time since I have seen you or been out your way. However, I "visit" with you every once in a while through your paper, The Councilor.

From your paper, The Councilor, I see in the January 17th, 1969 Volume 6, No. 7, an article out of Baton Rouge that Big Jim Garrison is about to open his now famous or ill-famous case against Clay Shaw. Such a case has has been started and that is why I am writing to you at this time.

I have enclosed some photo stat copy sent to me by Dr. Edward R. Fields, editor of The Thunderbolt, Savannah, Ga. His letter is self explanatory as you can easily see.

Mr. Touchstone, I am the man that visited in your printing place and told you about forming an organization to be known as, "The States Eagles, and asked your cooperation in helping to put this new RIGHT WING organization before the people. I also talked with Mr. Smith, your associate, about this same matter. We never did arrive at any conclusion. I was a little disappointed to say the least.

Now as you can readily see, it appears that I am "Top Gun" suspect from a leak that has come about and Dr. Fields has so informed me. I ask you to faithfully and diligently and most carefully look into this matter fully and consider all angles before naming a RIGHT WING PATRIOT to such a diabolical plot as this. I am a RIGHT WING man, have been a RIGHT WING man for years and intend to remain a RIGHT WING man the rest of my live long days.

As a man on the RIGHT I fail to see how you can possibly name a man that sees matters as you do, works as you do and does about as you do, to such a fiendish, low, contemptible scheme and plot as is now perpetrated upon the American Public. Especially coming from a so called PIMP as outlined by Dr. Fields.

As Americans we stand together or we fall seperately. I shall appreciate your full cooperation in this matter.

    Most sincerely,
    J.A. Milteer,

    P. O. Box 6263
    Savannah, Georgia 31405

    Dr. Fields and Mr. Milteer:

I am writing you jointly as a result of exchange of correspondence between the two of you and of Mr. Milteer's letter to me of February 9, 1969.

The name of the top gun suspect as given to me is not Milteer. This name begins with an "S". [Researcher David Boylan has posted: "If I remember correctly, the "S" shooter hinted at by The Councilor was Emilio Santana."

As Councilor editor I stand on accuracy of stories which have appeared in The Councilor itself. I have made it clear time and again that I do not endorse all of the statements made by Mr. Garrison. In fact, I would think that after Mr. Garrison got deeper into the case that he probably would not endorse some of the remarks that he made during the early period of his investigation. If an innocent man is named in New Orleans as a co-conspirator, then I will be just as dedicated in helping clear his name as I have been in helping to bring the attention of the world to David Ferrie.

    Sincerely yours,

    Ned Touchstone

    P.S. on both letters
I tried to telephone both of you today, but was told that Dr. Fields was out of the office and could get no number for Mr. Milteer.

    Feb. 6, 1969

    Dear Mr. Milteer:

Please read the enclosed issue of PERSONAL NEWSLETTER very closely. We have just learned from positive sources that the man Somersett is going to put the finger on, and charge as “Top Gun” in the Jim Garrison investigation is – YOU! Bill Sommerset has long been a paid pimp for the ADL. He gave Gerstein and Gelber a tape of a conversation he had with you – he claims it was shortly before the JFK assassination. They are going to play it at the trial in New Orleans with Somersett testifying and lying as usual. It looks as if they are going to name you as the “TOP GUN” in the conspiracy. If Garrison issues a subpoena for you, phone Attorney Stoner without delay – he may be able to help save you from this frame up. You might also write the Councilor and inform them you are a Patriotic Right-Winger and not to name you as the TOP GUN. That rat Somersett and Gerstein in Miami are behind this entire plot against you.
